Fall Fashion

With September at an end, summer has been ushered out and fall is coming in full force. The arrival of fall means many things: pumpkin spice lattes, vibrantly hued leaves, football games, dropping temperatures, shorter days, and of course, fall fashion! With the change of a season comes a whole new set of trends to explore. Whether this new fashion opportunity has you rushing to the department stores, credit card in hand or breathing new life into garments in your own wardrobe you had previously underestimated, here are 15 trends that will be huge this fall according to Glamour and Instyle Magazines:

Classic prints: Time to put away your florals and tie-dye prints and instead embrace prints like houndstooth, plaid, and tweed.
Gray flannel: look for pieces made from gray flannel or consisting of grey flannel accents for a soft and sophisticated look this fall. To add some edginess to the outfit pair the gray flannel piece with black leather.
Chunky sweaters: The classic fall staple is back, look for sweaters in interesting colors, patterns, and textures.
Statement coats: Look for coats in bold colors or interesting cuts. Moto jackets, oversized coats, menswear inspired coats, or (if you’re feeling really bold) capes made from a heavy material like flannel or wool are a chic way to stand out.
Mix or double up on patterns: To add interest to an outfit this season try wearing outfits that double up on stripes, pair pinstripes and embroidery, pastels and zebra print, or even plaid and floral print. Just remember that when putting these pieces together the idea is to compliment, not clash.
Be bold and try a leather piece: Leather isn’t just for bikers and if done in an interesting and colorful way, it can really add interest to an outfit. Look for colored leather and style it like you would a knit piece. But remember that a little goes a long way!
Military inspiration: Look for military inspired pieces with a girly edge like lace or brocade on a khaki green jacket or shirt. Or a girly version of combat boots which can be both functional and fashionable!
Black and gold: Create a perfectly blended mix of cold sophistication and warmth by looking for pieces that pair black and gold
Brocade: This regal looking embroidery can add a sense of opulence and foreign mystery to any outfit, even when done in the smallest amounts
Winter White: Don’t be afraid to wear white! It’ll make a statement in contrast to all the dark hues most people tend to gravitate towards as the temperature starts to drop. Just make sure it’s done in a structured weather appropriate way like jeans, jackets, or chunky knits
Emerald: Emerald will be huge this fall. Try pairing it with other jewel tones like amethyst and garnet or use it as a pop of color in an outfit. “A structured bag or high heels in this vibrant hue is like an exclamation point at the end of your ensemble.” says Glamour fashion writer, Nikki Ogunnaike in her article “The Dos and Don’ts of Fall 2013 Fashion Trends”
Have fun layering: Mix different colors, textures, and prints to add interest but don’t go so crazy that it gets overwhelming
Leopard Print: Leopard print is still holding strong! Mix it up a bit by trying leopard print in different colors like red, blue, or even purple.
Graphite: Slightly less flashy than gold or silver, this metallic will add a nice shine while looking darker and more sophisticated. Also, since all metallics are neutrals it can be paired with anything.
Peplum: The peplum tops, dresses, and skirts haven’t started to fade away yet! This ultra-flattering cut still has a huge presence on the catwalk.
**If you really want to stand out this season try wearing velvet shades, thumb rings, nature print scarves, ear cuffs, colored skinny cords, or booties with exciting or interesting backs like cutouts, glitter, or lacing.**
